A new downtown Bellefonte business is holding a soft opening this Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Cakery, at 135 W. High Street, will offer a variety of pastries, cupcakes, cakes, cookies and pies, in addition to merchandise.
Owner Melissa Stitzer isn’t new to Bellefonte, though. Her bakery business has actually been around for six years, with five as M&C Cakery. Now, through her new downtown storefront, she’s able to offer cash-and-carry items in addition to the pre-order goodies she’s offered in the past.
The store will have limited hours through June, opening on Fridays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 4 p.m. After a grand opening celebration around that time, The Cakery will expand its hours.
“I'm excited to do business in downtown Bellefonte because a bakery is something we don't have,” Stitzer said. “It's been a lot of fun watching people peek in the store and hear their excitement!”
She said that she’s also excited to join in the fun community-building events held locally, like Downtown Bellefonte Inc.’s “Bellefonte Under the Lights” dinner and Fridays in the ‘Fonte; and cultivating relationships with other business owners.
During the opening this weekend, visitors can expect to find a variety of treats and cakes. In the weeks to come, Stitzer says there will be a change in flavors along with the change of the seasons and holidays.
A whole lovely green space in the park will be transformed into a real-life wonderland of many of Central Pennsylvania's top brewers, distillers, and wineries.
This band is an extremely close recreation of the Fab Four. 'About as close as you can get', they say.
Bellefonte is well-positioned as both an outdoor destination and gateway to The PA Wilds.

It's all about art being created by the people visiting the museum. You walk through that front door and SHAZAM...you're the artist now.
As many as 15,000 car lovers have roared into town seeking those common bonds that all of mankind (and machine-kind, it turns out) yearns for.
